Ship:Izumo
Izumo — Japan Tech Tree Tier IX Battleship.
In 1934, Japan decided to abandon the displacement limits set by the Washington Naval Conference in order to surpass U.S. battleships in combat capability. The Imperial Japanese Navy General Staff issued an order to design a battleship with nine 460 mm guns and a displacement of 69,500 tons. The presented projects had three triple-gun turrets mounted on the bow, housing 410 mm guns. The preferred project had a combined diesel and steam turbine propulsion plant. While the design was never implemented, further development led to the creation of the Yamato-class battleships.
Pros
- Powerful and long-ranged heavy guns: Very high AP penetration and shell velocity, though this may lead to overpenetrations
- Respectable survivability: Deck armor coverage of 57mm thickness, with a thick armor belt, high HP pool and compact superstructure leading to good HE and AP resistance
- Overall, Izumo excels at at-range engagements and crossfires
Cons
- Unconventional turret layout: She cannot fire any main battery guns fully astern, and her middle turret does not have a full arc of rotation either – a positioning-dependent ship
- Poor mobility: A slow rudder shift time, large turning circle, and below-average speed for her tier
- Big target: Presents a larger profile to the enemy than Yamato, alongside the line-typical 16.7km base detectability by sea. Vulnerable to focus fire
