<h4>The Ship</h4>


Tier V ''La Argentina'' marks a shift in the Pan American cruiser gameplay and an impressive step up in capability. When compared to her predecessor ''[[Cordoba]]'', she mounts more powerful guns in multiple turrets, making them more comfortable to use. She shares many similarities with British light cruisers, but the lack of a Smokescreen consumable means she must find other methods of keeping safe from enemy fire.

''La Argentina'' mounts a standard cruiser {{Damage Control Party}}, with an action time of 5 seconds and a 60-second cool down timer. She also carries a {{Repair Party}} consumable with four charges and an 80-second cooldown between uses. Each charge can repair up to 10% of her HP over 20 seconds, including 50% of any citadel damage received. Although this is not as powerful as the version carried by later Pan American cruisers, it is still uncommon at Tier V. She also carries a {{Short-Range Hydroacoustic Search}}, which has four charges and a 100-second active time. However, unlike the normal cruiser Hydroacoustic Search which can detect ships at 4 km, ''La Argentina''’s will detect ships as well as torpedoes at 3 km. As such, it is more of a defensive tool. Finally, she carries a {{Catapult Fighter}} consumable with three charges. This launches two aircraft which will patrol around the ship for 60 seconds, and has a 90-second cooldown between uses.


''La Argentina'' is the stealthiest cruiser at Tier V, allowing her to move around the battlefield without being detected and reach advantageous positions with little difficulty. Her 9.5 km base surface detection can be reduced to 8.6 km with the <u>Concealement Expert</u> skill. Her agility, although not outstanding, is still above average. With a rudder shift time of 6.8 seconds and a turning circle of 610 meters, she is able to dodge incoming fire and avoid torpedoes with relative ease. However, her top speed of 30 knots is very slow for a Tier V cruiser. ''La Argentina'' cannot chase down enemy cruisers, let alone destroyers.

''La Argentina's'' armor is standard for a Tier V cruiser. With 13 mm plating on her bow and stern she is able to bounce AP rounds from 152 mm armed cruisers, but her armor can be overmatched by 203 mm AP or larger. Her bow and stern plating is also vulnerable to HE rounds, as even destroyers can penetrate it. Her side plating is slightly thicker — 16 mm armor is enough to bounce 203 mm AP rounds if sufficiently angled but is still easily damaged by HE rounds. With 25 mm deck armor, she can shatter destroyer caliber HE rounds and she can also bounce battleship AP rounds at short ranges.

''La Argentina'' has a large citadel which extends high above the waterline. With just 69 mm of external protection it is a tempting target for battleships and cruisers. At short ranges, even many destroyers can land citadel hits. The interior bulkheads are mostly 25 mm thick, so any shells which overmatch the bow or stern can potentially result in citadel damage. Additionally, her citadel has a stepped design with several flat surfaces. This means that AP rounds which penetrate her from ahead or astern are more likely to find a flat surface to penetrate. Finally, there is an opening in her armor around her torpedo tubes; although it is a small target, it opens directly onto her 25 mm citadel roof, allowing even cruiser HE rounds to cause citadel damage.

Adding to the difficulties posed by her thin armor, ''La Argentina'' also has one of the smallest health pools for a Tier V cruiser. Her Repair Party will not heal a devastating strike, so players must be careful not to put themselves in a position where they will attract large amounts of incoming fire.

<h4>Armament</h4>


''La Argentina'' carries a main battery of nine 152 mm guns in three turrets, two at the bow and one on the stern. She can only fire AP rounds from her main battery, which limits her damage dealing potential against angled battleships. Her AP has the same significantly improved ricochet angles as the British light cruisers. The rounds do not begin to check for ricochet until a 60° angle is reached; at this point most other nations would already be experiencing automatic ricochets. Unlike the British 152 mm AP, her rounds retain a standard fuse timer. As a result, players can expect more overpenetrating hits on lightly armored targets, especially at close range. When shooting at cruisers, ''La Argentina's'' guns are a powerful weapon and she is a dangerous threat if she can shoot an enemy cruiser’s broadside. Her shells have good penetration for their size, and retain enough penetration to reliably score citadel hits on same tier cruisers out to her maximum range.

''La Argentina's'' anti-aircraft is not enough to keep her safe. Although her long-range AA reaches out to 5.8 km, she only produces 1 flak cloud per salvo. She has a respectable continuous long-range DPS for a tier where many ships lack any form of long-range defense against aircraft, but it will not stop a determined carrier attack. ''LA Argentina'' lacks any medium caliber AA guns, and although her short range DPS is high and reaches out to 2.5 km, it will not have much time to engage enemy aircraft on an attack run.

Although she carries powerful guns that can cause serious damage to an unwary foe, her fragile hull and large citadel mean she will also take large amounts of damage if players find themselves out of position. Her low speed means that escaping from a poor position is a difficult task, and her low health makes her a tempting target for enemy ships.

Effective use of cover, and her excellent concealment, are needed to reach effective firing positions and reduce the amount of incoming fire received. Players should seek positions where they are able to fire into enemy broadsides where possible, as ''La Argentina'' will often struggle to damage well-angled enemies. The lack of HE rounds and fire starting potential emphasizes this drawback, so ''La Argentina'' will need assistance in sinking battleships unless she is able to ambush a damaged battleship and score multiple torpedo hits.

With only three guns to the rear, poor firing angles on her front turrets, and a fairly short range, kiting can be difficult. Unmasking her front turrets will both slow her down and expose a lot of broadside to any pursuers, but keeping her citadel covered means losing two-thirds of her firepower. Her torpedoes also lack the range to effectively cover a retreat. Any targets which are within their range will be well inside both her detection range and accurate range for return fire.

La Argentina — Pan-America Tech Tree Tier V Cruiser.

Cruiser La Argentina was built according to the 1926 program in Great Britain. The British Arethusa-class light cruiser was used as the basis of the design, with a number of changes regarding enhanced armament to add training functions to the ship. La Argentina became part of the Argentine Navy in 1939.
