During World War I, she defended Allied convoys across the Atlantic. Later, she served in battle and reconnaissance fleets. In 1936, she evacuated American citizens and refugees from Spain during the Civil War. The ship spent the rest of her service in the Pacific Ocean. | PERFORMANCE SECTION GUIDELINES
| |
| 1. Write a brief intro paragraph of 1-3 sentences. | |
| 2. Write 1-3 paragraphs of "meat". Talk about what the ship does well, what it doesn't, how it compares to same tier ships of the same type, how it compares to the previous ship in the tech tree, whatever. Try to avoid quoting vital statistics to players unless it is really relevant (i.e. concealment); they can see those in the sidebar on the right and don't need them read back. | |
| 3. Write a brief summary paragraph of 1-3 sentences highlighting the key takeaways from the paragraphs above.

| Tier V American battleship Oklahoma features improved secondary battery performance at the cost of decreased main battery performance. She retains the slow top speed typical of low tier American battleships, which can make it difficult to maximize the potential of her secondary weapons.
| |
|
| |
|
| With a top speed of just 19.7 knots, Oklahoma trails behind other Tier V battleships — even Texas is capable of a higher maximum speed. She does, however, have a tight turning circle for a battleship of 610 m. A rudder shift of 13.4 seconds means that her maneuverability is, on paper, fairly decent. However, OKLAHOMA rapidly loses speed while turning, which further compounds her low speed and makes her feel sluggish and unmaneuverable.

| Oklahoma carries an improved version of the Damage Control Party used by other nations. With a 20 second action time, she is protected against fires and floods for longer than most other battleships, potentially allowing her to escape and repair. Oklahoma also has an improved repair Party compared to other battleships. This can repair up to 18.5% of her health pool per use —8,900 hit points. It can also repair the standard 10% of citadel damage received. With 4 uses as standard, she can potentially repair up to 35,600 hit points if all her charges are fully used. Finally, she carries a Spotting Aircraft, which provides a 20% increase to her main battery range for 100 seconds.

| Oklahoma has 19 mm plating on her bow, stern and decks. This means she can be overmatched by battleship-caliber guns and is also vulnerable to even destroyer HE rounds. She has slightly thicker armor on her upper hull, with 25 mm plating that can bounce 356 mm AP if she is sufficiently angled and players are able to bait opponents into shooting this thicker armor.

| She has a health pool of 48,200 hit points, a similar total to NEW YORK. OKLAHOMA’s thin armor means that she can often find her health rapidly depleted. This is partially offset by her improved Repair Party consumable. However, her fragile armor and slow speed means that surviving to use her repairs to maximum effect can be difficult.

| Oklahoma has a main battery range of 17.1 km. She will be able to reach most targets when top tier, but will often be outranged when downtiered. Oklahoma has a long reload of 38 seconds, so her DPM is one of the lowest at her tier. In fact, she trails behind many Tier IV battleships. Adding to her DPM difficulties, her AP rounds are relatively weak, with poor penetration for their caliber. They have sufficient penetration to pose a serious threat to cruisers, but they will struggle to reliably penetrate battleships outside of short range battles, reducing the effectiveness of long range shooting. Unfortunately, her HE rounds do little to make up for her lackluster AP performance. Individually, her shells trail behind 356 mm rounds of other nations. When coupled with her long reload, her HE DPM is one of the lowest at Tier V, as is her firestarting potential.

|
| Oklahoma features improved secondary battery dispersion compared to many same tier battleships. Although she lacks the firepower of Agincourt, her secondary weapons can be very effective in close range brawls. With 21 mm of penetration, they can pose a serious threat to lightly armored ships, but their potential is reduced against battleships as most shells will shatter on their armored belts.

| Oklahoma has fairly weak anti-air defenses, although they are still better than many Tier V battleships. Her long-range AA DPS is one of the best at her tier, although a 4.8 km range is shorter than most other nations. This short range also reduces the effectiveness of her flak clouds, with enemy aircraft subjected to her flak bursts for a fairly short period of time. Her short- and medium-range anti-air DPS are on the weaker end for her tier. Although she can shoot down some attackers, Oklahoma will not be able to defend herself from air attack without help.

| Oklahoma presents a variation on the typical American battleship play style. Although her secondary battery is well suited to close range engagements, her slow speed and thin armor mean getting into effective secondary range is not easy. Her main battery lacks the DPM and penetration to pose a serious threat to enemy battleships at long ranges. To succeed with Oklahoma, players will need to use cover and concealment to reach an effective combat range in order to minimize her weaknesses. | | Continuous damage — average DPS within each action zone |

| USS Oklahoma was a Nevada-class battleship. She was commissioned in 1916 and served in the First World War after the USA entered the conflict. She capsized during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 6 December 1941 with the loss of 429 of her crew. Her wreck was righted, but was deemed to be too badly damaged to repair. Her wreck was stripped of its armament and superstructure, and the hulk remained at Pearl Harbor. She was sold for scrap in 1946, but she sank while being towed to San Francisco during a storm in 1947.
| |
| | |
|
Construction

| |
| Oklahoma was the second of two Nevada-class battleships. She was laid down on 26 October 1912 at the New York Shipbuilding Corporation and launched on 23 March 1914. Her eventual completion and commissioning were delayed by a fire and she was not commissioned until 2 May 1916.
| |
| | |
|
| |
| | |
|
First World War

| |
| After the American entry into the war, Oklahoma remained on the US East Coast. Although the US Navy had dispatched battleships to join the Royal Navy’s Grand Fleet, the submarine blockade of the UK meant that fuel oil was in short supply. Because of this, the USN sent coal-burning battleships. In August 1918, Oklahoma joined Battleship Division Six and departed for Berehaven in SW Ireland. Although she was tasked with escorting troop convoys, she spent most of her time in port, only leaving once to escort ships to the UK.
| |
| | |
|
Inter-war Years

| |
| Oklahoma was still in Ireland when the Armistice was signed in November 1918, and shortly afterwards she departed for Portland, England where she was joined by other US battleships. The ships were assigned as a convoy escort for the ocean liner SS George Washington, carrying President Woodrow Wilson. She departed for the USA on 14 December and spent early 1919 conducting exercises off the coast of Cuba. On 15 June 1919, she returned to Brest, escorting Wilson on a second trip, and returned to New York on 8 July. She was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet until 1920, and she joined the Pacific Fleet in 1921. She participated in the Fleet's trans-Pacific cruise to Australia and New Zealand in mid-1925.
| |
| | |
| In November 1927, she entered the Philadelphia Navy Yard for an extensive overhaul. She was modernized by adding eight 5-inch/25 cal guns, and her turrets' maximum elevation was increased from 15 to 30 degrees. An aircraft catapult was installed on top of the No.3 turret. She also received additional armor between September 1927 and July 1929, with anti-torpedo bulges added, as well as additional deck armor. The overhaul increased her beam and reduced her speed to 19.68 knots, and greatly changed her appearance.
| |
| | |
| A training cruise to Europe in 1936 was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War. Oklahoma was sent to assist in the evacuation of American citizens from Spain, transporting civilians from Bilbao to Gibraltar and French ports. She rejoined the Battle Fleet in the Pacific later in the year.
| |
| | |
|
Pearl Harbor
| |
| During the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Oklahoma had been moored alongside battleship Maryland in Fox berth. She was struck by two torpedoes during the initial attack, which damaged the torpedo bulges but did not penetrate her hull. Attempts by her crew to man the AA guns were unsuccessful as the firing locks were in the armory. Shortly afterwards, a third torpedo hit near the damaged section, penetrating the hull and causing her to take on water and start to capsize.
| |
| | |
| As she started to roll over, she was struck by two more torpedoes. In less than 12 minutes, Oklahoma had capsized to port. She ended up with her masts on the bottom of the harbor and her starboard side above water. It is believed that she received as many as 8 torpedo hits. Those of her crew who were able to had moved aboard Maryland to assist her crew in manning their anti-aircraft batteries.
| |
| | |
| Many of Oklahoma’s crew were still trapped in the upturned hull and rescue attempts began almost immediately. During a difficult rescue operation, 32 crew members were rescued by a team led by Julio DeCastro, a civilian dockyard worker. In total, Oklahoma suffered 429 crew killed or missing, the second highest after Arizona, including the chaplain Father Aloysius Schmitt. A number of sailors, including Fr. Schmitt, were trapped in a compartment with only a small porthole as the means of escape. Fr. Schmitt helped a number of men through this porthole. When it was his turn to leave, he declined and helped more men escape. In total, he helped 12 men escape.

| |
| | |
|
Salvage and Sinking

| |
| In 1942 it was determined that Oklahoma was a hazard to navigation and needed to be salvaged, despite the extreme cost of doing so. Preparations for the salvage operation took 8 months. Improvised airlocks were built, and air was pumped into the ship and 20,000 tonnes of water were pumped out of the ship.
| |
| | |
| 21 steel cables were attached to the hull and connected to winches on the shore. The righting operation started on 8 March 1943 and took until 16 June to complete. Teams of naval specialists then entered the ship to remove human remains. Cofferdams were placed around the hull to allow basic repairs to be undertaken so the ship could be refloated; this work was completed by November. On 28 December, Oklahoma was towed into drydock No. 2 at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. Her main guns, machinery, ammunition, and stores were removed. Structural damage on the hull was also repaired to make the ship watertight. She was determined to be too old and too seriously damaged to be worth repairing and returning to service.
| |
| | |
|
| |
| | |
| In May 1947, a towing operation began to move Oklahoma’s hull from Pearl Harbor to San Francisco Bay. On 17 May the ships entered a storm more than 500 miles (800 km) from Hawaii, and Oklahoma began listing heavily. After radioing the naval base at Pearl Harbor, both tugs were instructed to turn around and head back to port. Before the ships could return, Oklahoma had begun to sink, causing water to swamp the sterns of both tugs. As the battleship sank rapidly, the tugs cut their lines to avoid sinking with Oklahoma. The battleship's exact location is unknown.

| ===In-game historical inaccuracies===
| |
| * Oklahoma is depicted after her 1927-1929 modernization. Her original 1916 configuration is missing.
| |
| * 1917 experimental camouflage is missing. This pattern can only be found on New York.
| |
| * Measure 1 camouflage with Measure 5 false bow wave is missing. This was Oklahomas paint scheme in the summer of 1941.
| |
| * OS2U Kingfisher floatplane is painted with 1943 insignias; Oklahoma was sunk in 1941.
