|Performance=<!-- write text about performance in battles below -->
===Cons===
{{AA Sidebar Warning Insert}}
* Con 1
At first, the ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' may seem like a downgrade from the ''[[Erie]]'', as the gun range goes down by over a kilometer, the turning speed decreases, and the detection range goes up.  This ship requires some getting used to. The first few battles sees a player getting used to the ship's speed and turning capabilities, and the ship's gun range (Which, as stock, is actually less than the detection range, meaning by the time ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' can engage an opponent, it's already been spotted).
* Con 2

The ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' actually has ''less'' cannons at hand than the ''Erie'', since despite having 4 cannons, only 3 can be brought to bear upon an enemy at most. The upgraded fire control system is a welcome relief, bringing ''{{#var:ship_name}}'''s gun range to nearly a kilometer above her detection range, which can come in handy in engagements with slow, lumbering battleships, where she can use her better agility to escape before coming under serious fire.  The ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' is surprisingly agile for her size. The hull upgrade will increase her firepower by more than 30%, as she gets an additional cannon on each side of the ship. The gun upgrade gives a wonderful boost to her damage output, as the HE shells do a potential 300 more damage per shell, while the AP shells soar a whopping 900 potential damage increase per shell(Remember, however, that AP can be harder to use, so players inexperienced with using the shell type may prefer to stick to HE.)

Chester can afford to be aggressive. However, Tier II and III ships can still heavily damage her. Players should always stay on alert for destroyers, who relish the thought of sending a sudden spread of torpedoes into her side. If one appears, they should take immediate evasive maneuvers.

This does not mean that you should yolo and players should be wary of devastating battleship fire. Remember that she is a big target, and that she will fall if under concentrated fire. In these cases, never stop moving. ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' is faster than Tier III battleships and some other cruisers, and stands a good chance of outrunning them. Supporting the big capital ships is a viable strategy, as it will draw fire away from her, though make sure to not stray into the lines of fire of enemies (or allies).

====Service====
USS ''Chester'', laid down on 25 September 1905, and launched almost two years later on 26 June 1907, became the first scout cruiser of the United States Navy.  After being fitted out until April 1908 she was commissioned and underwent testing and training off the Eastern Coast.

Having participated in the United States Naval Review at Hampton Roads, Virginia in February 1909, ''Chester'' carried a Congressional Committee to North Africa later that the same year.  In December 1911, she was decommissioned and put into reserve.  While in reserve in April 1912, she was dispatched to assist RMS ''Carpathia'' whose decks were packed with survivors of the sinking of RMS ''Titanic'' on 14 April.  Recommissioned into service in November 1913, she assisted in the occupation of Veracruz, Mexico on 21 April 1914 by providing fire support for landing troops.  In December of the same year she was decommissioned once again for refit and reserve duties, though this time her time off duty only lasted until April 1915.

With World War I raging in Europe, ''Chester'' spent time patrolling the Atlantic coast of the United States, and, later in the war, assigned to escort convoys in the Atlantic.  On 5 September 1918, during one such convoy duty, she engaged a German submarine (or "U-boat"), which she first attempted to ram and then fired depth charges at.  The submarine managed to dive away and was never positively identified.

After the war ''Chester'' spent another three years before being decommissioned one final time on 10 June 1921.  On 10 July 1928, ''Chester'' was renamed to USS ''York''.  Her new name didn't last long, however, as ''York'' was sold for scrap on 13 May 1930.

Chester — U.S.A. Tech Tree Tier II Cruiser.

At the beginning of the 20th century, three "scout cruisers" with a high freeboard were built. These ships had a high speed for their time, were equipped with modern propulsion plants, and had an armor belt, but their armament was considered rather weak. Before the Omaha-class cruisers were built, these three ships had remained the most modern cruisers in the U.S. Navy. USS Chester took part in the occupation of Veracruz and, following the United States' entry into World War I, served as an escort for convoys and transported troops.
