They deal a respectable 9,233 damage, travel fast at 82 knots, and have a 51% base chance of flooding. While her homing torpedoes are good at long range, their fast speed and short arming distance allow them to be used at close ranges against small and agile targets, especially when shotgunning. Due to having 4 bow torpedo tubes, shotgun attacks with homing torpedoes can deal good damage to cruisers, and outright destroy enemy destroyers, with a maximum alpha strike of 36,932. U-4501 also has 6 rear torpedo launchers, which can be used after diving below targets and repeating the shotgun with rear launchers, for an alpha strike of 55,398 damage. However, the rear torpedo angles are quite poor, with only 3 rear torpedo tubes able to be launched from a side. Her torpedoes have a 60-second reload time and all tubes load simultaneously.

Once enemy ships are aware of a submarine's relative location, the submarine players' effectiveness shrinks, as the enemy ships will take evasive maneuvers to avoid taking massive torpedo damage. Due to how deadly ASW damage is at Tier 10, and the low HP pool of the submarine, it is advised to minimize being spotted or blind dropped by ASW planes.

| ''U-4501'' was planned to be the first of the German Type XXVI U-boats. Five boats of the class were started, but construction was not completed before the war ended.

| Background
| |
| | |
| The Type XXVI U-boat was designed with convoy attacks in mind. They would have been propelled by a system known as the Walter propulsion system, which used hydrogen peroxide fuel to allow the U-boat to reach submerged speeds of up to 24 knots. The system was designed to provide a submerged endurance of about 15 hours at 15 knots, for a range of 225 miles, or about 6 hours at 24 knots for a range of about 125 to 150 miles. Compared to the Type XXI, they had a small battery for low-speed submerged cruising, and a diesel engine for surface cruising or snorkelling.

| They would have been constructed from eight modular sections, which would be taken to a shipyard for final assembly. In May 1944, a contract for 100 boats of this type was given to the Schichau shipyard in Gdansk. By the end of the war, some sections for U-4501 to U-4504 were under construction.

| Armament

| The armament consisted of ten torpedo tubes, four of them on the bow. The other six tubes were mounted with three on each side, pointed aft and outboard at an angle of about 9°. The orientation of the side tubes permitted a torpedo to be reliably launched at speeds up to 15 knots, whereas launching from the bow tubes was limited to speeds of less than 6 knots. There was no provision for reloads to be carried.
