PERFORMANCE SECTION GUIDELINES
1. Write a brief intro paragraph of 1-3 sentences.
2. Write 1-3 paragraphs of "meat". Talk about what the ship does well, what it doesn't, how it compares to same tier ships of the same type, how it compares to the previous ship in the tech tree, whatever.  Try to avoid quoting vital statistics to players unless it is really relevant (i.e. concealment); they can see those in the sidebar on the right and don't need them read back.
3.  Write a brief summary paragraph of 1-3 sentences highlighting the key takeaways from the paragraphs above.

<h4>The Ship</h4>
===Pros===
Tier VII ''München'' is a light cruiser with a small battery of 150 mm guns. She has a rapid reload which allows her to unleash a large number of shells, but the characteristics of German ammunition types limit her effective DPM.
* Pro 1
''München'' is somewhat unusual for a German cruiser; with her high top speed and good concealment, she can move around the battlefield in relative safety. With the <u>Concealment Expert</u> captain skill her detection can be reduced to just 9.4 km. Her turning circle of 690 meters and rudder shift time of 8.3 seconds mean that she is one of the most agile cruisers at her tier.
* Pro 2

''München'' mounts a standard cruiser {{Damage Control Party}} with a 5 second action time and 60 second cooldown between uses. In her first consumable slot, ''München'' has the option of {{Defensive AA Fire}} or {{Hydroacoustic Search}}. Of these options, the Hydroacoustic Search is the sensible option. This is an improved German version that will detect ships at 5.5 km, torpedoes at 3.75 km, and submerged submarines at 2 km. In particular, the ship detection is far superior to the usual 4 km range for most other cruisers. This is active for 110 seconds with a 120 second cooldown between uses and three uses as standard.
===Cons===
Players can opt to take Defensive AA Fire instead. This will run for 40 seconds and will provide a 50% increase to constant DPS and a 300% boost to her flak. However, ''München’s'' AA is not effective enough to make this a serious option.
* Con 1
* Con 2
In her final consumable slot, ''München'' carries a {{Catapult Fighter}}. This will launch three aircraft which patrol around the ship for up to 60 seconds. During this time they may engage an enemy carrier flight and shoot down three aircraft. Or they will fail to engage and watch as the player’s ship is attacked.

<h4>Survivability</h4>
''München'' is a small ship, and this manifests itself in her low health pool. 30,200 hit points is low for any cruiser and ''München'' lacks any options to mitigate damage or recover lost health. Her plating is fairly typical — 16 mm at the bow and stern. She can bounce most cruiser AP shells except for those of ''Graf Spee'' and other large cruisers, but is vulnerable to all calibers of HE ammunition and battleship AP.

Her citadel is rather large, extending some distance above the waterline and a considerable length along the hull. It is largely set back from the hull and heavily sloped, which provides some protection. Much of the citadel is protected by a 50 mm belt, with a gap before the internal 35 mm plating which can cause shells to detonate before penetrating the citadel. However, there is also a small section of citadel beneath the forward funnel which extends above the external belt. It is possible for her armor and turtleback citadel to defeat some AP shells, but it is a brave (or foolish) player who relies on this.

''München’s'' thin armor and small health pool mean that her best option for survivability is to remain unobtrusive. Use islands as shields and carefully pick her battles, or use a friendly smokescreen.

<h4>Armament</h4>
<div style="border: 2px solid rgba(212,175,55,0.8); border-radius: 3px; margin-bottom: 1em; overflow: hidden;">
''München'' mounts eight 150 mm guns, which is a small main battery at a tier when many of her peers carry twelve or more guns. ''München'' makes up for this with a rapid reload and long range of 16.6 km. At just 5 seconds, her guns reload almost as quickly as those on ''Atlanta'' and faster than ''Chumphon'' even with their smaller weapons. Unfortunately, this reload is somewhat hampered by the unique features of German ammunition. Her shells also tend to float at longer ranges, making accurate gunnery somewhat difficult.

Her AP rounds deal more damage than expected for their size, but they lack penetration compared to AP of other nations. When combat ranges extend past 10 km, ''München'' can struggle to penetrate the main belts of other light cruisers, let alone more heavily armored vessels. ''München’s'' AP rounds can be powerful, but they require the right circumstances to reach their full potential.

In comparison to her AP rounds, ''München’s'' HE has improved penetration like other German ships. With 38 mm of penetration, ''München'' is able to punch through the deck armor of US battleships as well as the decks and plating of most cruisers and French and British battleships. However, she pays a price for this power, as her shells deal a paltry 1,700 damage each and have a rather low fire chance. ''München'' can set 7-8 fires per minute under ideal conditions, if such a thing exists. Although these may seem like drawbacks, her improved HE penetration means that ''München'' does not need the IFHE skill and does not need to choose between fire starting potential or direct damage dealing.

''München'' mounts a quadruple torpedo launcher on each side. These carry typical German torpedoes with a 6 km range and rather low damage. With just 13,700 damage per torpedo, they will not deter a larger ship from rushing an isolated ''München''. Her launch angles are fairly good, so in extreme situations it may be possible to charge that approaching battleship and launch both sets of torpedoes, but the writer takes no responsibility for the likely outcome of this approach.

<h4>Anti-Air</h4>
<div style="border: 2px solid rgba(212,175,55,0.8); border-radius: 3px; margin-bottom: 1em; overflow: hidden;">
''München'' has fairly short ranged AA defenses. Her long range guns reach out to 5.2 km rather than the more typical 5.8 km of most nations. München produces a solitary flak cloud; a competent CV player will typically dodge this with relative ease.
{| class="wikitable" style="margin:0; color:inherit; width:100%"

</div>

Her long range DPS is one of the lowest at her tier, and will do little to dissuade an enemy carrier from attacking. The majority of ''München’s'' anti-air DPS comes from her short range weapons. These have some of the highest effective DPS at her tier, comparable to New Orleans. But these weapons will not engage targets until they are within 3 km, so her AA is unlikely to shoot down any aircraft until they have already completed their attack run.

In theory, her AA can be improved with the Defensive AA Fire consumable, but it means giving up a useful consumable for a highly situational (and ineffective) one.

<h4>Anti-Submarine</h4>
! style="background-color:#1a3244; color:#ffffff; font-weight:bold;" | AP SHELL !! style="background-color:#1a3244; color:#ffffff; font-weight:bold;" |
''München'' has depth charges for her ASW weapons, dropping eight charges in an attack with up to two drops ready at a time. Her depth charges are fairly weak in terms of damage, dealing 2,200 for a direct hit, but they have a higher flood chance of 26%. To attack a submerged submarine, ''München'' must get close to her target, potentially putting her at risk from the submarine’s allies. She is capable of taking on, and defeating, a submarine, but it is not a task that players can expect to excel at.

<h4>Battle Performance</h4>
</div></div></div>
''München'' should rely on her stealth and speed to reach an advantageous firing position. Her main battery can deal large amounts of damage, which allows her to wear away an enemy during a sustained fight, but with fewer guns she will not land many serious strikes compared to her rivals. Taking a one-on-one fight with any enemy is not recommended, as ''München’s'' DPM may not make up for her low survivability. München is well suited to supporting friendly forces, lending her DPM to destroyers contesting cap points, or screening battleships from marauding destroyers.
<div class="b-popup"><div class="b-popup_head js-tech-nav_head"><div><h2>Secondary Battery</h2></div><span class="b-tech-nav_arrow"></span></div><div class="b-popup_content" style="display: none;"><div>

</div>

''München'' can also make a capable destroyer hunter, using her improved Hydroacoustic Search to detect enemy destroyers hidden in their smoke. Interestingly, if she is built for stealth and is shielded from enemy forces, München can fire on a hydro-detected enemy inside their smoke and remain undetected, which can be a nasty experience for an unsuspecting destroyer. But getting this wrong is a quick lesson in overextending.
<div style="border: 2px solid rgba(212,175,55,0.8); border-radius: 3px; margin-bottom: 1em; overflow: hidden;">
If players want to engage battleships, this is best done by using her good range to shoot from distance whilst adjusting speed and course to present a difficult target.

If players can afford it, the {{Hydroacoustic Search Modification 1}} available for coal in the armory will increase her Hydroacoustic Search action time to 132 seconds. Alternatively, Engine Room Protection will keep her mobile for longer. In slot 4, Steering Gears Modification 1 will double down on her already impressive turning to allow ''München'' to dodge more shells.

If players have Gunther Lutjens, he makes an excellent captain as ''München’s'' rapid reload means his Main Battery Loader talent is not difficult to trigger. Once the battle has progressed and the teams are thinned out, ''München’s'' stealth means that his Resilient talent can be triggered by spotting three ships, allowing ''München''  to recover some precious health. This can be done through spotting battleships (or cruisers) which have disengaged to repair. His improved Grease the Gears will also work well with her maneuverability, allowing ''München'' to keep guns on her targets as she twists and turns.
* '''Slot 3:''' {{Hydroacoustic Search}} (3 charges, 110.0s action, 120.0s cooldown) '''or''' {{Defensive AA Fire}} (3 charges, 40.0s action, 80.0s cooldown)

* '''Slot 4:''' {{Patrol Fighter}} (3 charges, 60.0s action, 90.0s cooldown)
Do not waste points on the Inertial Fuse for HE Shells skill; this will cut ''München’s'' already uninspiring fire chance for little gain.

''München'' was intended to be the lead ship of a class of cruisers designed for commerce raiding against the United Kingdom in the Atlantic. Design work for the ships started as early as 1936, following the Anglo-German Naval Agreement of 1935, which allowed Germany to increase her navy to 35 percent of the strength of the Royal Navy. It was felt that the existing light cruisers of the ''Leipzig'' and ''Königsberg'' classes lacked sufficient range for commerce raiding.

Initial requirements were found to be unrealistic as the desired combination of range, speed, armament, and protection would be impossible to manage on the 8,000 ton displacement. In July 1937, designs were requested from several sources, including private dockyards as well as the naval design staff; however, none of the dockyard designs were deemed to be suitable. The official naval design was chosen, despite this also failing to meet several design criteria.

During the design process, it was realized that several serious flaws were evident due to the focus on range and speed on a limited displacement. Main armament and anti-aircraft weapons were weak, and the armor would have been insufficient to protect the ship. Crew accommodations were too cramped for the long-distance cruises that commerce raiding would require, and both turbines were in one compartment with both boilers feeding into the same funnel, meaning that a lucky hit could disable the ship’s propulsion entirely.
The contract for ''München'' was assigned to Deutsche Werke in Kiel with the construction number 263. ''München’s'' keel was laid in 1938, but construction was halted in September 1939, shortly after the outbreak of World War II. With little work done, München was broken up, and the material already gathered was diverted to other projects.

==In-game historical inaccuracies==
''München'' is actually the name of a ''Bremen''-class cruiser that was in service with the Imperial German Navy from 1905 to 1918. No warship in the Kriegsmarine was ever named ''München''.

München — Germany Premium Tier VII Cruiser.

The German plan provided for the presence of thirteen light cruisers, six of which had already been built by the beginning of 1939. There were plans to add six more cruisers with an enhanced design. Unlike the preceding classes, they were supposed to have an improved range and higher speed. In 1938 and 1939, six ships were ordered, two of which were laid down in Kiel and Wilhelmshaven in 1938. In September 1939, the construction of the ships was canceled due to the outbreak of World War II, and all laid-down cruisers were demolished on the stocks.
