In March 1933, AG Vulcan Stettin released a design proposal for a "conventional London Naval Treaty" destroyer featuring a displacement of 1,500 tons. Later, the project underwent revisions, resulting in an increased displacement of 2,000 tons. Nevertheless, the Kriegsmarine leadership favored an alternative project, which served as the basis for the subsequent development of the Type 1934 ships.

One of the designs for the Zerstörer 1934 destroyer. The ship was designed to be relatively large for her type and featured a very powerful artillery armament of 150 mm cruiser caliber guns. This caliber was unusual for destroyers.

===Pros===
The ''Ernst Gaede'' is a vast improvement to its predecessor, the ''[[T-22]]'', although it does retain some characteristics from her. The ''Ernst Gaede'' still only has four guns to work with, however these guns are much larger and much more effective than the guns found on the ''T-22''. Her torpedoes are a slight improvement to her predecessor's, with the upgraded torpedoes having 8.0km range. This allows some room for the ''Ernst Gaede'' to fire torpedoes from stealth, even if the ranges to work with are narrow.
* Pro 1
* Pro 2

She has the intriguing choice between two different calibers of guns: the standard 128 mm destroyer guns, and 150 mm guns that more resemble light cruiser guns (albeit with fewer barrels than a light cruiser). Both have their advantages:
===Cons===
* Con 1
* Con 2

|Strategy=
The Ernst Gaede excels at sticking with your team. If you are near a cruiser or battleship, they could help cover you and take damage from long range as you watch their flanks for enemy destroyers or provide support in close range engagements. The ideal comp for a blob would be a cruiser, a battleship, and a destroyer (not you, another one).

Advantages of 128 mm:

Her {{Hydroacoustic Search}} has the same acquisition ranges as the non-German cruisers, which allows her to play very aggressively and ambush enemy targets hiding in smokescreens or behind terrain as well as screening for enemy torpedoes and contesting capture points. Compounded with the hard-hitting 150mm guns, the ''Ernst Gaede'' can launch vicious surprise attacks on enemy destroyers and eliminate them from the game. While her detection may not make ambushes the most logical of actions, taking advantage of terrain and the enemy's positioning will allow for successful attacks.

|Research=
''Ernst Gaede'' is a very interesting ship; she's one of a handful that have access to two different gun calibers. Hull (B) is a fairly minor upgrade to her anti-aircraft suite and rudder shift. The upgraded Fire Control System module is the best thing to invest in first, providing a badly needed increase in range. After that, it's largely captain's preference. Captains can unlock the improved Main Battery module in order to experiment with the 150mm guns, or spend experience on a minor torpedo buff. Hull (B): the rudder shift buff is nice but not essential and the improvement to her AA battery is largely cosmetic.

===Design===
After World War 1 the German Navy started planning for new destroyers in 1932. While the majority of designs and proposels were made by official sites, private companies also attempted to design the first generation of German Destroyers. One of these drafts came from the AG Vulcan Stettin, which was located in Hamburg. This design allowed an armament of four single mounted 128mm or 150mm guns and two Torpedo launchers, either in triple or quadruple mountings.

However, in 1933 it was decided that the Destroyer should have two quadruple Torpedo launchers and a fifth gun mount. As the latter requirement could not be met with this design, it was dropped and no longer considered.

Ernst Gaede — Germany Tech Tree Tier VI Destroyer.

In 1933, the construction of flotilla destroyers began, and it was planned for them to surpass their same-type counterparts owned by other nations in speed and firepower.
