Premium Tier&nbsp;VIII Battleship.</p><p>In 1935, the authorities of the U.S.S.R. decided to build a "big fleet," and the nation's design bureaus began to develop draft designs of battleships. One such ship was a battleship for the Baltic Sea, which was to have a displacement of 35,000 tons, nine 406 mm guns, and a 350 mm-thick armored belt. A preliminary design was ready by June—the ship had a Nelson-like layout but was rejected due to "tactical reasons." Designs of this class were the basis of Type A battleships, which later evolved into the Sovetsky Soyuz-class battleships.</p><p> </p></div>
One of the variants of a high-speed battleship with a 406 mm battery (Project 21), developed under the "Big Fleet" program. A distinctive feature of the Project was the concentration of the main battery turrets in the ship's bow.<br><br>3c1e40f9e3a9425b8edc07f5ff88dba5

|Performance=
Pros
AA Sidebar Warning Insert
* Pro 1
is the the first Tier VIII Premium Russian battleship to be introduced into Word of Warships, and the sixth all-guns-forward battleship in the game. Unlike the French battleships that are equipped with two quadruple forward turrets, Lenin nicely fills the tier gap between the British Nelson and Japanese Izumo, and the Russian variant of this unique design shares many of the same characteristics, flaws, and playstyles of the other two vessels. Captains familiar with either of the other two should find to be a similar experience.
* Pro 2

comes armed with nine 406 mm guns, mounted in three turrets, all of which are mounted close together on the bow of the ship. Combined with the unique dispersion formula for Russian battleships, the tightness of the shell groupings can be truly frightening to see; especially so if on the receiving end. pays for her increased close-range accuracy by having the longest reload time of all Tier VIII battleships, and by having a fairly short maximum firing range. Furthermore, her turret faces are rather un-angled and fairly thin, so receiving incapacitations to them is a common occurrence. She does, however, possess a 360° second turret and very fast turret rotation speed, also typical of Russian battleships.  The already-fast main turret traverse can be improved even more with a special Commander such as Alexander Ovechkin.
Cons
* Con 1
* Con 2

As for protection, has the normal 32 mm of plating, but a fairly well-armored midsection; 50 mm upper belt and a 45 mm deck. She also possesses a 100 mm strip of armor along the waterline of her bow. She has an above waterline citadel, so captains should be wary of showing too much side to enemy battleships. With her unique turret setup and quick turret traverse, staying perfectly angled to the enemy while being able to bring all guns on target is quite easy. However, like with Nelson and Izumo, if can get all nine guns on target, she is probably not angled enough.

Overall, is a formidable Tier VIII battleship. Her turret setup and convenient turret rotation speed easily allows her to maintain proper angling while keeping her guns in action, and her armor is more than enough to keep her alive while doing so. Captains looking for either a unique ship or a competitive experience can find both in .

in World of Warships is based on Project 21, a design by KB-4 for Battleship B.
</div></div></div>

In 1935, the Soviet Union began to take interest in the development of its battleships, with two projects eventually emerging — Battleship A and Battleship B. Initial studies by the Naval Academy, completed in September 1935, outlined separate roles and operating areas for the two battleship types, with the larger Type A intended for the Pacific and Arctic oceans, engaging capital ships, while the smaller Type B would operate in the Baltic and Black sea, operating as “cruiser-killers” and destroying treaty cruisers and pocket battleships.

During these studies, TsKBS-1 (Central Design Bureau for Special Shipbuilding No. 1) developed designs for both the Type A and Type B battleships based on preliminary characteristics outlined by the navy, as well as hybrid warships. Sketches were submitted in December 1935, where they were handed off to the Navy’s Scientific Institution for Warship Construction (NVIK) and then to the Navy’s Shipbuilding Department. On February 21, 1936, the navy outlined tactical-technical requirements (TTZ) for Battleship A and Battleship B. The latter, assigned project number 21, received the following requirements:

* Displacement: 35,000 standard tons
* Armament:
** 9 x 406 mm main battery guns
** 32 x 130 mm dual-purpose (DP) secondary guns
** 24 x 37 mm, 24 x 12.7 mm AA guns
* Armor:
** Belt: 350 mm
** Deck (total): 200 mm
** Speed: 36 knots
** Range: 5,000 NM at 25 knots

The next stage in Battleship B’s development came with its assignment to the Design Bureau of the Baltic Works (KB-4). They deemed the specifications, particularly the speed, unrealistic, and approved a new set of specifications on May 15, 1936. The new outline of requirements saw speed decreased to 30 knots, the secondaries reduced to sixteen 130 mm guns (later changed to a 152 mm and 100 mm combination), and the belt armor increased to 380 mm. Over the following months, a competition was held between KB-4 and TsKBS-1 for the development of both Battleship B and the larger Battleship A. In July of 1936, KB-4 produced two designs quite similar to the Nelson-class battleships, differing only in turret arrangement. Variant 4, which had an all-forward facing main battery, was deemed superior, and had the following characteristics:

* Displacement: 35,000 standard tons, 41,000 tons full load
* Dimensions: 249 m length; 31.8 m beam; 8.9 m draft.
* Armament:
** 9 x 406 mm main battery guns
** 12 x 152 mm, 12 x 100 mm secondary guns
** 36 x 37 mm AA guns
* Armor:
** Belt: 350 mm
** Turrets: 406 mm faces, 250 mm roofs
** Conning tower: 400 mm and 125 mm
** Deck: 40 mm upper, 25 mm middle, 130 mm lower
** Machinery: 171,000 shp
* Speed: 30 knots
* Range: 6,000 NM at 14 knots
* Complement: 1,280

Torpedo protection was provided by the Italian Pugliese system. While the structural details and dimensions of the system were a secret, the general characteristics of the system had been published in maritime journals as early as the 1920s. A complete description of the Pugliese system used on the Italian oiler Brennero was published in 1938 in an unclassified Soviet journal, Sudostroenie. Indeed, the system on Project 21 was very similar to that of the oiler.

While the TsKBS-1 designs have limited information, it is known that they had two designs – a Nelson-like design, as well as a more conventional AB-X design.

Ultimately, the Navy rejected the Nelson-style arrangement for tactical reasons. All work on the Battleship B project would stop in 1937, after many changes in its designs.

Historical Accuracy Errata:
* No ship in the Soviet Navy has ever been named Lenin.
* In the game, is modeled in a 1944 condition, assuming she had been laid down in 1936.

Lenin — U.S.S.R. Premium Tier VIII Battleship.

In 1935, the authorities of the U.S.S.R. decided to build a "big fleet," and the nation's design bureaus began to develop draft designs of battleships. One such ship was a battleship for the Baltic Sea, which was to have a displacement of 35,000 tons, nine 406 mm guns, and a 350 mm-thick armored belt. A preliminary design was ready by June—the ship had a Nelson-like layout but was rejected due to "tactical reasons." Designs of this class were the basis of Type A battleships, which later evolved into the Sovetsky Soyuz-class battleships.
