Niord represents a hypothetical design similar to the Mackensen Class battlecruisers from Imperial Germany during World War 1, This class was intended to be high speed with good artillery. In an alternate timeline, this ship could've been sold to Sweden. In reality, the Mackensen class had 350mm guns, and had 5x600mm torpedo tubes submerged. Wargaming has essentially made a 1920s hybrid modernization of this class, meant to embody the achievements of german shipbuilding. In reality, Niord would likely have its torpedoes removed, unlike how it is represented in World of Warships for gameplay purposes.

A fast battleship with a similar layout to World War I-era German battlecruiser designs. Had history taken a different course, she might have been laid down in Germany by 1918, bought by Sweden in the 1920s, and gradually completed by the end of the 1930s. The battleship's artillery armament is supplemented by four quintuple-tube torpedo launchers.
