Ship:Pensacola
Pensacola — U.S.A. Tech Tree Tier VI Cruiser.
The first cruisers of the U.S. Navy built in accordance with the guidelines outlined by the Washington Naval Treaty. To ensure sufficient firepower, ten 203 mm guns were distributed among four turrets. Due to the narrow hull, triple-gun turrets were mounted in an elevated position. During World War II, USS Pensacola played a significant role in the Battle of Midway as an escort for aircraft carriers Yorktown and Enterprise. She later participated in the campaign in the Solomon Islands, serving as an escort for aircraft carrier Hornet. During the course of the war, the ship was awarded 13 battle stars.
Pros
- Powerful main battery firepower: Heavy broadside of 10 203mm guns with good firing angles and AP with improved angles before autobounce
- Good maneuverability: Decently fast rudder and a tight turning circle for mobile gameplay
- Good bow and stern protection: 25mm end plating prevents her from being overmatched by 356mm guns on many mid-tier battleships, but her armour is thin overall if you are caught broadside or encounter larger calibre guns
Cons
- Slow turret handling: Long reload and slow traverse on her main battery guns
- Poor concealment: Out-spotted by most of her cruiser tier-mates, as well as some battleships
- Lack of access to torpedoes: A common characteristic across the US Heavy Cruiser line, which may cause issues in close-range engagements
