Terror of the Deep

Summary
Terror of the Deep was a PVE Scenario that debuted in 2018 as the Halloween event of the year. Two difficulties were available: Normal and Hard. 2018 was the only year the operation ran.
In Terror of the Deep, the Warriors of Light go back to the realm of darkness to banish Rasputin once and for all. At their disposal are newly developed state-of-the-art ships that have the ability to submerge under water.
For this operation, players got to try five new unique ships: Barracuda, Killer Whale, Zipper Sub, Seelöwe and Gerfalcon, all of which are submarines.
Terror of the Deep is the third operation of the Transylvania storyline, being a sequel to Sunray in the Darkness and preceding Last Voyage of Transylvania. Twilight Battles also likely takes place before or after Terror of the Deep.
Story
After Sunray in the Darkness, the Warriors of Light managed to defend Silverspear Archipelago, and along with the mages and the magic towers, they managed to seal the portal and filth away from their realm. Unfortunately, enemy ships kept creeping into the realm of light. In response, the Intanians attempted to destroy the portal, to no effect. The mages realized that the part of the portal beneath the surface was still intact and functional, and that was how enemies managed to creep into their world.
Additionally, the Warriors of Light managed to capture a captain from the Realm of Darkness. The captain told them that Rasputin had survived every encounter, and that it was that wretched ship that kept sending hordes of ships to the Realm of Light.
Now with a resolve to hunt down and sink Rasputin once and for all, the Warriors of Light had new and innovative ships constructed, that could submerge and move under water, to sneak through the portal, to ultimately find and destroy Rasputin.

Walkthrough
Players spawn in the southwest and will have to sail northeast to find the Rasputin. In the early-mid stage of the operation, the team is split into two groups, each spawning on different sides of a long island that divides the southwest part of the map. For the first wave of enemies, each group will have to face off against three Zikasas each. At the same time, three gun mounts spawn, one on each side of the island (at grid squares F1 & I4), targeting their respective groups, and one on the island itself that can shoot either group (at G4).
As the submarines continue sailing, four additional gun mounts are detected at E3, F3, G5 and H7, and two additional enemies spawn to intercept each group: a Varg and a Scarab.
After the Vargs and Scarabs are sunk, the players will have finally sailed past the long island, and are united at the middle of the map. Here, four new battleships spawn: Leviathans. Additionally, four extra gun mounts are detected on two of the islands at grid squares E5, F6, C5 and F8.
It is worth mentioning the rest of the spawn points for the gun mounts in its separate paragraph. Depending on difficulty either 14 or 17 will spawn in. Besides the grid squares already mentioned, catapults can also spawn at F10, D10, A9, B10, A6 and A7. These, along with the four mentioned in the previous paragraph are all located on the five islands that create a circle in the northeast end of the map, the so called “Islands of the Five Ravens”, with each island housing two spawn points in total, each spawn point facing the straits that the islands create. Additionally, there are still two extra spawn points in the periphery of the map, at B3 and H9. There are 19 potential spawn points in total, but only a certain amount of catapults spawn depending on difficulty. The catapults spawn in when the player enters a spawn points detection range (~8 km). As soon as the “Spot the enemy’s onshore gun mounts” mission is completed, no more additional gun mounts will spawn.
The Black Lair Castle, located on the C8 island, heals Rasputin while it is undetected, but stops healing if a friendly submarine spots it. The detection range of the castle is only 5 km, so players will have to sail dangerously close to find it.
Once players sail into the large ring of islands, Rasputin will spawn and sail around within the circle of islands, and more new enemies will gradually spawn: Razorworms, Octopuses and Steel Rats. In total, four Octopuses can spawn, along with three Steel Rats and Razorworms each.
The operation ends as soon as Rasputin is defeated, or when all players have been sunk.
Tips
- While Barracuda has good secondaries, it is not worth trying to gun down the catapults and ballistas with them due to the latter having high HP pools. It is simply not worth the time.
- As Gerfalcon is the fastest submarine, it is recommended that one player sailing it moves up to the Black Lair Castle to spot it in advance.
- The gun mounts are not able to spot for themselves, so players can safely surface in close proximity to them as long as other enemy ships are not in the vicinity.
Rewards & Achievements

Completing the operation for the first time yields players the "Terror of the Deep" achievement (can only be claimed once).
With the release of Terror of the Deep, a second achievement “Warrior of the Light” was added, which was rewarded to players for achieving five stars in Saving Transylvania, Sunray in the Darkness and Terror of the Deep. (Can only be claimed once). With the event's conclusion, these achievements can no longer be obtained.

Trivia
- Terror of the Deep was the first time submarines were implemented as a playable class in World of Warships.
- The submarines in the event are all modelled and based on real submarines:
- Submarines Gerfalcon, Seelöwe and Killer Whale are based on the Type XXVI (in-game: U-4501), Type XXI (in-game: U-2501) and USS Gato respectively.
- While the real-life counterparts of Barracuda and Zipper Sub are not implemented in the game, they’re inspired by the British HMS X-1 and Soviet M-class submarines (possibly a series XII variant) respectively.
- All subs in the event were listed as tier 7.
- The new enemy ships, Leviathan, Octopus, Razorworm and Steel Rat are modelled after North Carolina, Mogami, Kiev and Z-23 respectively.
- The submarine commanders in this game mode have been seen in different ships from the prior events, and the respective submarine designs reflect the aesthetic of their original ship.
- The working name for the operation during the Public Test was "Terror of the Deep Blue Sea".
