Buffalo — U.S.A. Tech Tree Tier IX Cruiser.

As part of the development of cruisers capable of achieving a speed of 35 knots, various options were explored, including improvements to existing ships or the designs of ships already under construction. Three design variants for the "improved Wichita"-class cruiser were presented. Among the various options, the most promising one involved adding an extra main battery turret, thereby increasing the total number of turrets to four; however, challenges arose when attempting to install the power plant on the hull to achieve the desired speed. The ship was ultimately designed to reach a speed of 33 knots only. As a result, these projects were abandoned.

Pros

  • Excellent main battery firepower: 12 quick-reloading 203mm guns, AP with improved angles before autobounce and heavier shells with increased penetration, giving her impressive DPM and a threatening salvo
  • Decent survivability: Large HP pool for a Tier IX heavy cruiser, good armour scheme
  • Good consumable suite: Versatile utility, like the other high-tier US heavy cruisers

Cons

  • Lower main battery shell velocity: The heavier shells have higher arcs, and her range is limited
  • Unfamiliar layout and ergonomics: Unlike her predecessor and successor, Buffalo’s firepower is evenly distributed, which may feel uncomfortable and limit her practical firepower
  • Clumsy handling: Her large side, low speed and average manoeuvrability
