Yamato — Japan Tech Tree Tier X Battleship.

The preliminary draft design of the battleship developed in Japan in the mid-1930s had a displacement of 49,000–69,500 tons, a speed of 24–31 knots, and a main gun caliber of 410–460 mm in various versions. The final version was Yamato, the largest battleship in the world. Admiral Yamamoto took command of the Japanese forces from her bridge during the Battle of Midway. On April 7, 1945, Yamato was sunk off Kyūshū island by attacking U.S. Navy aircraft during Operation Ten-Go.

Pros

  • Powerful and long-ranged heavy guns: 460mm guns overmatch not just the 30mm plating of same-tier cruisers but also the 32mm plating standard on high tier battleships. Their long range of 26.6km, consistent shell flight times and good accuracy can be further augmented by Yamato’s unique upgrade
  • Respectable survivability: Especially at longer ranges: Deck armor coverage of 57mm thickness, high HP and torpedo damage reduction, a thick main belt at a considerable angle, turrets that are not easily disabled
  • Overall, Yamato excels at long-range and defensive engagements, out-trading other battleships with her thick armour, overmatch, and reliable damage output

Cons

  • Very slow turret traverse: Enemies at closer ranges are likely to outpace your guns
  • Highly vulnerable citadel: It is raised above the waterline and follows its historical, somewhat octagonal shape, allowing it to be penetrated at an angle “through the cheek” by other battleships at medium and close range
  • Low mobility: Low speed, handling and a slow rudder for her tier. Considering all the above, choose any close-range engagement and position very wisely...
