Gryf — European Tier I cruiser.

In the early 1930s, the Polish Navy succumbed to the trend of building large minelayers capable of operating independently. The ship was supposed to have weapons that would not be inferior to those of a destroyer and to serve as a training ship in peacetime. Their new minelayer was laid down in 1934, launched two years later, and entered service in 1938. In the event of hostilities, Gryf was tasked with setting up a mining bank to protect the only Polish seaport of Gdynia from amphibious assault. On September 1, 1939, the first day of World War II, the ship was damaged by an air attack. Two days later, she came under artillery fire from German destroyers and suffered another air attack. She received several hits from aerial bombs and sank.

Named after a mythical beast with the body of a panther and wings/head of a falcon, Gryf' is the Tier I cruiser of Poland. Having the second largest HP pool of the Tier, she can soak up damage that others on the team cannot. However, it's worth noting that Gryf is "squishy," and her survivability is not due to any kind of armor. Gryf has a very fast reload but a weak broadside weight, so good players need to attack while the enemy is distracted, keeping their health in reserve. Gryf's low speed, however, doesn't help her in this regard.

Armament:

Gryf' carries six 120 mm guns in two twin and two single turrets. They have a stock 3.4 s reload, 10.7 km range, and a slow 180-degree traverse time of 18 seconds. As a Tier I cruiser, she only has access to HE shells, which deal 425 damage, penetrate 20 mm of armor, and have an 8% fire chance. Her reload is the fastest of all Tier I ships, but she has the lowest alpha damage.

Hull:

Gryf' is completely covered in 6 mm armor plating. However, she has a very large health pool of 7,550. This allows her to trade health with other cruisers and offsets her lower alpha strike. Both her speed and concealment are average, but her hull is large and easy to hit.

Consumables:

As a Tier I ship, Gryf'’s Damage Control PartyWhen activated, instantly repairs fires, floods, and incapacitations, and prevents more for the duration. is her only consumable. It is important to only use it with multiple fires set or modules damaged, to reduce the chance of multiple permanent fires being set while it's on cooldown.

Battle Performance:

Gryf'’s gameplay is similar to other ships of this tier, but with a larger hit point pool and faster rate of fire. It is important to focus down one ship at a time and then move onto other targets. When fighting multiple ships, it is best to kite away from them, dodging fire and firing back simultaneously.

Pros:

  • Large health pool
  • Fast reload
  • Six guns (tied for most in Tier with Sutlej & Black Swan)
  • small turn radius

Cons:

  • low speed
  • pitiful HE damage per shell
  • ship has a weak spot abaft the funnel on the waterline where the magazines can be easily detonated
  • nonexistent armor
