Louisiana — American Tier X battleship.

This was one of the options for completing the Montana-class battleships. To create a hybrid battleship-carrier, a flight deck at least 350 feet long was required, which could only be done by removing the third turret. To preserve her combat power, it was suggested to replace the fourth turret with a quadruple-gun turret.

Louisiana was first released for sale on DD MMM YYYY.

Summary

A further development of Delaware, Louisiana is the final ship in the American Battlecarrier line. She stands out from other battleships by sacrificing a traditional superstructure for a flight deck that can launch powerful dive bombers. Her key upgrade over her predecessor is an extra 2 barrels on her aft turret, bringing her total number of main battery guns to 10.

Armor

The main weakness of Louisiana is her armor layout. Her hull armor is nearly identical to Montana, with a 259 mm lower belt, 409 mm belts along and above the waterline stretching almost to the deck, and a lighter 38 mm plate that covers the rest of the way to the deck and partly up the superstructure. She also features a 32 mm bow and stern, giving her the ability to bounce everything up to the Yamato. Her main downside is her upper superstructure/flight deck. While the flight deck itself has a 38 mm plate which can shatter small caliber guns, it leaves a massive target for any enemy aircraft at Tier X. The side plating is a thin 19 mm, and covers the entire width of the ship above the secondary mounts. Any shells that would normally miss or bounce off the deck or secondaries will most likely penetrate into the superstructure and deal damage. Louisiana’s flight deck presents a large target for enemy ships to shoot at, and while her hull armor is decent, she will lose significant HP through her superstructure alone.

Armament

Louisiana has one of the most unique armament layouts in the game. She mounts 10x 406 mm guns in 3 turrets. 6 of the guns are forward in a 2x3 layout, with a single quad turret on the stern underneath the flight deck. Her shells are identical to Montana’s and have an alpha of 13500 on her AP shells. While not the most outstanding caliber or alpha damage at the tier, Louisiana like Montana excels at exploiting broadside targets with her main battery.

Louisiana also contains a unique secondary battery layout. On paper it seems normal, with 5 dual 127 mm turrets per side. But 4 of her 5 starboard turrets have the ability to fire across her flight deck to bring the total of port firing turrets to 9. While her secondaries appear the best of the US battleships, Louisiana only has the standard range for the tier, and they lack the special accuracy found on ships such as Ohio or Georgia. Commander skills should not be used towards the secondaries and instead put into skills that improve the survivability or air fleet of the ship.

The main selling point of the Louisiana line is that they are hybrid battleships. Unlike Kearsarge, Louisiana is equipped with dive bombers just like her predecessors. Her squadrons also get access to Engine CoolingAir squadron consumable that makes more Engine Boost available., allowing her planes to travel faster across the battlefield or to get out of enemy AA fire.. Her squadron has a 120 second base preparation time which can be reduced via Airstrike Modification 1 -20% cooldown time. +25% aircraft HP. +15% depth charge damage. and Focus Fire Training. Each squadron consists of 6 planes, each with 2500 HP and armed with 2 HE bombs. Each bomb has an alpha damage of 7300, 46% fire chance, and can pen 52 mm of armor. Unlike her predecessors, Louisiana has a much tighter bomb reticle at 70x164 m compared to the 105x244 found on Nebraska and Delaware. While the penetration may not be enough to directly damage the decks of battleships, most cruisers and destroyers will not only feel the high fire chance, but will also be chunked by direct penetration due to the small ellipse.

Anti-Aircraft

As a hybrid ship, Louisiana has one of the best anti-aircraft batteries at Tier X. Her long range battery has a maximum range of 6 km and deals an average continuous damage of 175 per second. The medium range battery contains the strongest ship based AA defense, dealing an average of 529 damage per second starting at 4 km. The short range AA battery has a max range of 2 km and deals an average of 186 hp of damage per second. To support her AA guns, Louisiana has 8 flak explosions that deal 1764 hp each. To further supplement her AA defense, Louisiana also has access to the Catapult FighterWhile active, a group of fighter planes circles the ship providing protection by attacking incoming enemy aircraft. consumable to chase down enemy aircraft. Overall Louisiana can hold her own against enemy aircraft, as well as support friendly ships.

Battle Performance

Louisiana is a second line battleship and should not be spearheading pushes. Due to her massive flight deck, attempting to tank damage will result in the quick loss of her HP. In the event Louisiana comes under focus fire, she should utilize her fully upgraded 13.6 km concealment to go dark to reposition. Louisiana should focus on broadside targets with her main battery due to her lack of overmatch with her 406mm guns. Using her bombers, Louisiana is able to easily hunt enemy destroyers or strike targets behind islands. Players need to be mindful while using her squadron however, as there is no direct control of her gun orientation or consumables, and the only ship control is via autopilot.

Pros:

  • Accurate main battery
  • Decent Concealment at 13.6 km fully upgraded
  • Bombers with engine cooling consumable available
  • Ability to spot enemies with the bombers
  • Improved agility when compared with Montana, with a faster rudder shift time and higher top speed
  • Gain access to fighter consumables in a separate slot

Cons:

  • Massive superstructure
  • 406 mm guns cannot overmatch 32 mm of armor which is standard at the tier
  • Subpar firing angle for the back turret

Research

As a Tier X ship, Louisiana has no module upgrades to research.

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades are:

Commander Skills

Do not run a secondary build. Louisiana is not a ship meant to push in. Focusing skills into the squadrons and/or survivability is the most effective build.

Consumables

Louisiana equips the following consumables:
